Last night I watched the first episode of Ken Burns latest film called The National Parks – America’s Best Idea on DVD. This film is about the history of our national parks and how they have shaped our collective love towards nature itself.
Originally aired on PBS stations as six episodes for a total running time of 12.5 hours. Each episode is contained on its own DVD as well as special features which I’ve not watched yet.
Episode one is the story of Yosemite and Yellowstone and how they came to be parks. Though the history of the parks is fascinating, what really grabs you is the pure beauty that are the parks.
Ken Burns has truly captured the essence and grandeur of these natural monuments. The images pull you in and beckon you to go see them in person, that somehow only by do so will be the only way you can truly feel and understand the full scope and majesty of God’s handiwork.
I’ve wanted to visit Yellowstone National Park and Yosemite National Park and after watching Ken Burns’ film The National Parks – America’s Best Idea my desire is more pressing to see them in person.
I’m looking forward to watching the other episodes of The National Parks and also seeing if Mammoth Cave National Park is elaborated on since it is the closest park to me and on I’ve been to.
